Lace Up for Lung Cancer
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month — a perfect time to lace up, get moving, and show your support for the thousands of New Zealanders diagnosed every year with the country's deadliest cancer.
Every year, thousands of people in Aotearoa are diagnosed with lung cancer, often when it is too late for effective treatment. More than 1900 New Zealanders are killed annually by lung cancer — that's about 36 lives lost each week.
It's often seen as a smokers' disease, and while most lung cancers are caused by smoking, the reality is: anyone with lungs can get cancer.
Lace Up for Lung Cancer is an opportunity to show your support for those affected by lung cancer, and help raise funds for vital research, education, and advocacy that makes a real difference.
How to get involved
No matter where you are in Aotearoa, or how you move, you can join the fight as a fundraiser, or by simply donating to the campaign or other fundraisers! Head to our dedicated Lace Up for Lung Cancer website to get started.
Where do donations go?
- Trusted, evidence-based information helps individuals affected by lung cancer understand their diagnosis, treatment and what comes next. Your support helps keep this information up-to-date and develop new resources, including a patient handbook designed to help people and their whānau navigate life after a diagnosis.
- Individuals living with respiratory disease deserve access to the treatments and medicines that can make a life-changing difference. Your support helps ensure the experiences of patients and their whānau are heard and keeps pressure on decisionmakers to improve access to effective treatments.
- Finding lung cancer earlier can save lives. Your support helps keep the pressure on for a nationwide lung cancer screening programme, building on the progress of the current pilot so that screening can reach people across Aotearoa.
