Guidelines

Our national clinical guidelines translate international evidence into best practice, supporting consistent, high-quality cardiac and respiratory care for New Zealand patients.

High-quality healthcare starts with evidence-based care. That's why developing national clinical guidelines is a core part of our work.

Working alongside leading clinicians, researchers and health professionals from across New Zealand, we develop and maintain best practice guidelines that translate the latest international evidence into practical recommendations for local healthcare settings. Our guidelines provide a consistent, evidence-based approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiac and respiratory conditions.

By establishing national standards of care, these guidelines help reduce unwarranted variation in clinical practice, support informed decision-making, and give health professionals confidence they are delivering care that reflects the latest evidence. Ultimately, they help ensure people receive the right care, at the right time, regardless of where they live.

Each guideline is developed through a rigorous, collaborative process involving multidisciplinary experts, stakeholder consultation and regular review to ensure recommendations remain current as new evidence emerges. This commitment to quality and continuous improvement helps strengthen health services and improve outcomes for people living with heart and lung conditions across Aotearoa.
