Asthma and COPD eLearning course
This 12-hour course offers 12 CPD credits and takes health professionals through four modules including asthma fundamentals and management, COPD management, and health promotion.
The Foundation provides the most current asthma and COPD eLearning course available in New Zealand, designed for all registered health professionals including nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists and GPs.
About the course
The Asthma and COPD Fundamentals eLearning Course consists of four online modules, in which a ‘flipped classroom’ provides a contemporary approach to CPD. This enables health professionals an enjoyable and easily accessible continuing professional development experience.
The course has been endorsed by the College of Nurses Aotearoa for 12 continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
The four online modules include:
- Asthma Fundamentals (current statistics for NZ, anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, functions and control of respiration, features of asthma such as early and late phases, triggers, occupational and exercise induced asthma, diagnosis and tests).
- Asthma Management (goals of treatment, medications, 2020 updated NZ Adolescent and Adult Asthma Guidelines and Child Asthma Guidelines, treatable traits, asthma action plans).
- COPD Management (COPD statistics in NZ, morbidity and mortality, causes and onset of COPD, diagnosis and assessment of severity, pathophysiology, diagnosis, goals of management, self-management, and the NZ COPD Guidelines: 2025 Update)
- Health Promoting Practice (social determinants of health, health-promoting practice, cultural responsiveness and health literacy)
